Job Description
The Opportunity
An excellent opportunity is available for an experienced Intermediate Accountant to join a well-established public practice accounting firm in Western Australia. This role offers exposure to a diverse client portfolio while working alongside experienced managers and directors in a supportive professional environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering accounting, taxation and compliance services to businesses and individual clients across various industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare financial statements and income tax returns for companies, trusts, partnerships, sole traders and individuals
- Prepare and lodge BAS, IAS and other taxation compliance obligations
- Prepare tax reconciliations, working papers and year-end financial reports
- Complete bookkeeping, general ledger reconciliations and journal entries
- Assist with payroll processing, PAYG withholding and superannuation obligations
- Communicate with clients and relevant government authorities regarding accounting and taxation matters
- Identify accounting discrepancies, missing information and compliance issues
- Manage multiple client engagements while meeting statutory deadlines
- Assist with tax planning, business advisory services and special projects
- Provide guidance and support to junior accounting staff when required
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with Australian accounting standards
- Deliver professional and responsive client service at all times
Requirements & Eligibility
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Commerce (Accounting major) or equivalent qualification
- Minimum two years of public practice accounting experience preferred
- Experience preparing financial statements, income tax returns, BAS and IAS
- Good understanding of Australian taxation, GST and accounting regulations
- Experience using Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks, HandiSoft, Xero Tax or similar accounting software
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Professional, proactive and client-focused attitude
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- CA or CPA studies will be highly regarded but are not essential
