Boat Builder/Engineer/Alloy Fabricator

This opportunity is suited to skilled welding and fabrication professionals who can demonstrate genuine hands-on experience and the technical ability required for precision marine manufacturing.

You will become part of a specialist production environment in New Zealand, contributing to the construction of high-performance aluminium boats and fabricated components. The position combines welding, fabrication, drawing interpretation and practical workshop skills, with a strong focus on quality workmanship and reliable production.

• Interpret engineering and fabrication drawings to complete assigned work accurately
• Carry out MIG welding on aluminium and other metals to required quality standards
• Perform boat-building, fabrication, fitting and assembly work
• Measure, cut and prepare materials for fabrication and installation
• Operate workshop and fabrication equipment including saws, shearing machines, cranes and bending machinery
• Use hand and power tools safely and effectively for fabrication and finishing tasks
• Inspect completed work to ensure accuracy, strength and quality
• Follow established production procedures and workplace safety requirements
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop environment
• Work closely with supervisors and other tradespeople to meet production requirements
• Contribute practical ideas that support improved workflow, quality and productivity
• Complete required production documentation including time records and material requests
• Report equipment, material or quality issues to management when identified
• Support a positive and professional team environment

• Demonstrated professional experience in welding, fabrication or boat building
• Proven ability to weld aluminium using the MIG welding process
• Experience working with different metals and welding techniques
• Practical understanding of aluminium fabrication and assembly
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
• Experience operating fabrication machinery and workshop equipment
• Competent use of drills, grinders, squares, levels and other engineering tools
• Strong understanding of workplace health and safety practices
• Good attention to measurements, accuracy and finishing quality
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team
• Reliable approach to work, with a strong commitment to quality and deadlines
• Good communication and workplace collaboration skills
• Ability to provide evidence of relevant skills and professional experience
• Willingness to work in Southland, New Zealand
