Job Description
The Opportunity
An excellent opportunity is available for experienced Indian cuisine professionals to join a well-established and busy hospitality business in Queensland. Multiple permanent positions are available for Indian Curry Chefs/Cooks, Tandoori Chefs/Cooks and Indian Cuisine Sous Chefs.
Successful candidates will prepare authentic Indian cuisine while maintaining high standards of food quality, presentation and kitchen operations in a fast-paced environment. Sponsorship is available for suitably qualified overseas applicants who meet Australian visa requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare authentic Indian curries, tandoori dishes, sauces, breads, rice, entrees and desserts
- Operate and maintain traditional tandoori ovens where applicable
- Prepare and present dishes in accordance with established recipes, portion sizes and presentation standards
- Assist in menu planning while considering food and labour costs
- Monitor food preparation and presentation to ensure consistent quality
- Maintain appropriate stock levels and minimise food wastage
- Inspect the freshness and quality of ingredients before use
- Store food safely in temperature-controlled facilities
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and workplace safety
- Supervise, train and support junior kitchen staff where required
- Respond professionally to food quality issues and customer feedback
- Work closely with management to plan daily and weekly kitchen production
- Maintain kitchen equipment and ensure all work areas are clean and hygienic
- Demonstrate strong organisational and time management skills
- Work efficiently in a fast-paced commercial kitchen environment
Requirements & Eligibility
- Minimum three years of experience preparing authentic Indian cuisine
- Experience as an Indian Curry Chef, Tandoori Chef, Indian Cook or Sous Chef
- Relevant Commercial Cookery or Hospitality qualification appropriate to the position
- Strong knowledge of traditional Indian cooking techniques and authentic recipes
- Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume, fast-paced kitchen
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Commitment to food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety standards
- Ability to supervise and train junior kitchen staff where required
- For overseas applicants, a positive skills assessment is required
- For overseas applicants, IELTS score of 5.5 or 6.0 in each module, or an equivalent PTE score, is required
