We are seeking a Senior Cook who can demonstrate genuine professional experience, sound kitchen knowledge and the ability to take responsibility during daily operations. The role is designed for candidates whose experience and capabilities can be clearly demonstrated and verified, with opportunities to develop further in kitchen leadership and restaurant operations.
You will contribute not only to food preparation and service, but also to team coordination, stock quality, menu development, supplier relationships, food costs and kitchen performance.
The successful candidate will be expected to take ownership of their responsibilities, maintain consistent standards and provide reliable leadership within a busy professional kitchen.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook food to consistent professional standards
- Inspect ingredients and assess freshness, quality and suitability before use
- Manage food preparation including cleaning, chopping, blending, seasoning, heating and cooling
- Monitor cooking processes to ensure correct quality, timing and presentation
- Apply appropriate procedures when preparing food for different dietary requirements
- Coordinate kitchen activities during preparation and service
- Lead, support and mentor kitchen team members during daily operations
- Demonstrate practical knowledge across all major kitchen sections
- Take responsibility for maintaining food quality from delivery through to final presentation
- Check incoming stock and identify quality issues when required
- Maintain appropriate storage standards for ingredients and kitchen supplies
- Monitor inventory and assist with stock control and ordering
- Maintain kitchen equipment, utensils and work areas to professional standards
- Contribute ideas for new dishes, recipes and menu improvements
- Support consistent menu execution across kitchen services
- Use digital restaurant and accountability systems as required
- Work with suppliers to help maintain quality produce and commercially effective purchasing
- Monitor kitchen performance with consideration to food costs and labour expenditure
- Provide regular operational information to management
- Help maintain a productive, respectful and positive kitchen environment
- Take a proactive approach to solving operational issues during service
- Maintain established food safety, hygiene and workplace standards
- Support management with continuous improvement of kitchen procedures and performance
Requirements & Eligibility
- Minimum 3 years of relevant professional kitchen experience
- Demonstrated experience in established restaurants, dining establishments or comparable commercial kitchens
- Proven ability to perform effectively in a senior kitchen position
- Verifiable employment history demonstrating relevant culinary responsibilities
- Strong understanding of professional food preparation and cooking techniques
- Ability to manage responsibilities across different kitchen sections
- Demonstrated leadership and team coordination capability
- Experience working with kitchen teams of up to 12 people is highly desirable
- Strong knowledge of food quality, presentation, storage and preparation
- Understanding of dietary requirements and appropriate food handling procedures
- Experience with stock management and inventory control
- Knowledge of food costing and kitchen labour management is advantageous
- Experience contributing to recipes or menu development is advantageous
- Ability to remain organised and effective during high-volume service
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with chefs, kitchen staff, suppliers and management
- Willingness to learn digital restaurant management and accountability systems
- Fluent English communication skills in speaking, reading and writing
- Ability to provide supporting evidence of qualifications, employment history and relevant professional experience
