The Opportunity
Your experience in a professional kitchen can open the door to more than another chef position. This opportunity is designed for an experienced Sous Chef who can demonstrate genuine culinary capability, leadership and the ability to perform in a demanding hospitality environment.
We are looking for a chef whose skills and professional background can be verified and matched to the requirements of an established hospitality operation in New South Wales. In this role, you will work alongside senior kitchen leadership, take ownership of day-to-day kitchen performance and help maintain high standards across food preparation, presentation and service.
Key Responsibilities
- Support senior kitchen leadership with menu planning and daily kitchen operations
- Coordinate food preparation, cooking and plating during service
- Maintain consistent standards across flavour, presentation, quality and portion control
- Lead, supervise and support kitchen team members
- Train junior staff and promote strong kitchen practices
- Monitor food safety, hygiene and HACCP compliance
- Manage stock levels, inventory and food usage
- Assist with food cost control and reduction of unnecessary wastage
- Inspect completed dishes to ensure they meet required standards
- Take responsibility for kitchen operations when senior chefs are absent
- Assist with developing new dishes and seasonal menu concepts
- Work with senior chefs to maintain and improve kitchen standards
- Ensure kitchen equipment is operated safely and maintained appropriately
- Maintain a clean, organised and efficient kitchen workspace
- Coordinate with front-of-house staff to support an efficient service
- Remain organised and effective during high-volume service periods
Requirements & Eligibility
- Minimum 2 years' experience as a Sous Chef, Senior Chef or comparable senior kitchen professional
- Demonstrated professional kitchen experience that can be verified
- Strong knowledge of commercial cooking techniques and food preparation
- Relevant culinary qualification, apprenticeship or minimum Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent
- Good understanding of food safety, hygiene and HACCP principles
- Valid NSW Food Safety Certificate
- Current food handling certification
- Proven ability to supervise, train and support kitchen staff
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Ability to maintain quality and consistency under pressure
- Experience with stock management and kitchen cost control
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Professional approach to food quality and continuous improvement
- Ability to commit to full-time employment in NSW
