The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced and qualified Chef to join a highly regarded hospitality operation in New South Wales, known for its quality dining, functions and strong connection to local producers.
This role is ideal for a chef who enjoys working with fresh regional ingredients, seasonal produce and high-quality cuisine and wants to develop their skills within a professional kitchen environment.
You will be part of an established culinary team delivering à la carte dining as well as weddings, corporate functions, private events and other special occasions. The role provides exposure to a diverse range of service styles while maintaining a strong focus on consistency, presentation and food quality.
The successful candidate will work closely with senior kitchen staff and have the opportunity to contribute to menu development, kitchen efficiency and the ongoing delivery of high food standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Head Chef and venue team to coordinate daily kitchen operations
- Assist with menu planning, development and food costing
- Prepare and present dishes to a consistently high standard
- Work with fresh, seasonal and locally sourced produce
- Monitor the quality, freshness and correct storage of ingredients
- Assist with stock ordering, inventory management and stock rotation
- Maintain efficient food preparation and minimise food wastage
- Apply a range of professional cooking techniques across different menu requirements
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and food safety
- Support the kitchen team during busy à la carte and function services
- Assist in identifying opportunities to improve kitchen workflow and efficiency
- Delegate appropriate tasks to junior kitchen team members
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain consistent service standards
- Respond professionally and effectively to changing service demands
- Maintain an understanding of produce origins, seasonal availability and appropriate storage requirements
Requirements & Eligibility
- Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification
- Minimum 3 years of relevant commercial kitchen experience
- Strong practical cooking and food preparation skills
- Experience working in a professional restaurant or hospitality kitchen
- Fine dining experience will be highly regarded
- Regional or rural hospitality experience will be an advantage
- Knowledge of fresh, seasonal and locally sourced produce
- Ability to maintain consistent food quality and presentation
- Strong organisational and multitasking abilities
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during busy services
- Ability to work effectively as part of a professional kitchen team
- Ability to communicate clearly with senior chefs and other team members
- Professional attitude with strong attention to detail
- Ability to assist with supervising and delegating tasks to junior staff
- Must be eligible to meet Australian employment and visa requirements
