The Opportunity
Bring your proven commercial kitchen experience into an Australian hospitality environment where professional capability, reliability and consistency matter.
We are seeking an experienced Chef who can demonstrate a strong track record in commercial cookery and confidently contribute across preparation, service, kitchen organisation and team support.
This role is designed for a Chef who takes pride in their craft, understands the demands of a busy service environment and can work independently while contributing positively to the wider kitchen team.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, cook and present meals consistently to established quality standards
- Organise daily preparation and ensure the kitchen is fully prepared for service
- Manage mise-en-place and take responsibility for an allocated kitchen section
- Contribute ideas for seasonal dishes, specials and menu development
- Apply appropriate cooking techniques to achieve consistent food quality
- Monitor portion sizes, presentation and overall dish consistency
- Assist with ordering, stock rotation, storage and inventory control
- Monitor food temperatures and maintain appropriate food storage procedures
- Identify opportunities to reduce food waste and improve kitchen efficiency
- Maintain strict food safety, hygiene and workplace safety standards
- Ensure food handling practices comply with applicable Australian requirements
- Work closely with kitchen and front-of-house teams to maintain smooth service
- Remain organised and effective during busy lunch and dinner periods
- Support and guide junior kitchen staff during preparation and service
- Demonstrate appropriate cooking methods and kitchen procedures to team members
- Help maintain a clean, safe and well-organised kitchen
- Follow established recipes, preparation methods and workplace procedures
- Communicate professionally with colleagues and contribute to a positive team culture
- Demonstrate reliability, integrity, respect and a strong customer-focused approach
Requirements & Eligibility
- Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or an equivalent recognised qualification
- At least five years of relevant commercial kitchen experience
- Demonstrated and verifiable experience working in a professional kitchen
- Strong practical skills across food preparation, cooking and presentation
- Ability to independently manage a kitchen section during service
- Practical experience with menu planning and new dish development
- Knowledge of stock management, food storage and wastage control
- Sound understanding of food safety and hygiene practices
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a busy service environment
- Strong communication, teamwork and organisational skills
- Ability to train and support less-experienced kitchen staff
- Professional attitude with a strong focus on quality and consistency
- Availability for evenings, weekends and public holidays when required
