The Opportunity
A well-established hospitality venue in Queensland is seeking a capable and experienced Sous Chef to strengthen its kitchen leadership team.
This opportunity is suited to chefs who can demonstrate their professional experience, qualifications, leadership ability, and commitment to high kitchen standards. The focus is on finding a reliable, work-ready candidate who can become a valuable long-term member of the team.
As Sous Chef, you will work alongside the Head Chef to coordinate kitchen operations, maintain food quality, support the team during busy services, and contribute ideas that enhance the overall food offering.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily kitchen activities and support efficient service delivery
- Work closely with the Head Chef to maintain consistent kitchen standards
- Supervise kitchen staff and provide direction during busy service periods
- Step into a leadership role when the Head Chef is unavailable
- Maintain high standards of food preparation, presentation, and consistency
- Assist with developing new menu items, specials, and seasonal offerings
- Monitor stock levels and assist with purchasing and ordering
- Help control food costs and reduce unnecessary kitchen waste
- Maintain compliance with food safety and HACCP procedures
- Ensure workplace health and safety standards are consistently followed
- Train and mentor junior chefs and kitchen team members
- Support effective kitchen organisation and workflow
- Maintain cleanliness and professional standards across the kitchen
- Communicate effectively with management and front-of-house teams
- Help build a cooperative, accountable, and positive kitchen environment
Requirements & Eligibility
- Demonstrated experience working as a Sous Chef, Senior Chef, or equivalent
- Recognised qualification in Commercial Cookery
- Strong commercial kitchen and hospitality experience
- Proven ability to supervise and lead kitchen staff
- Experience working effectively during high-volume service
- Strong understanding of food preparation and presentation standards
- Knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and HACCP practices
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Clear communication and team leadership abilities
- Reliable, hands-on, and professional approach to kitchen operations
- Ability to maintain quality and performance under pressure
- Commitment to long-term employment and professional development
- Candidates must be able to provide evidence of relevant qualifications and professional experience
- Australian working rights or eligibility for employer-sponsored employment
