CNC Machine Operator / Machinist

A skilled CNC machinist can bring precision, judgement and years of hands-on experience to every component they produce. This opportunity is designed for experienced machinists who can demonstrate genuine technical capability and take ownership of complex machining work.

Based in New Zealand, the position offers exposure to a varied precision engineering environment where machinists work across milling, turning and multi-axis operations. Rather than repetitive, high-volume production, the role involves one-off jobs, short production runs, complex components and machining associated with industrial repairs and refurbishment.

• Set up CNC machinery and prepare jobs for production
• Prove programs and make necessary machining adjustments
• Operate CNC milling, turning and multi-axis equipment
• Manufacture precision components from engineering drawings
• Interpret technical drawings, dimensions and machining specifications
• Determine appropriate tooling, cutting speeds, feeds and workholding methods
• Monitor machining processes and make adjustments to maintain accuracy
• Conduct dimensional inspections and in-process quality checks
• Diagnose machining, tooling and setup problems and implement practical solutions
• Complete one-off, prototype and short-run machining assignments
• Work on technically demanding and larger industrial components
• Carry out machining for repair, refurbishment and component modification
• Maintain consistent quality and accuracy across completed work
• Follow established safety, quality and workshop procedures
• Manage machining tasks efficiently while meeting required deadlines
• Support process improvements and contribute practical machining knowledge
• Work effectively alongside experienced engineering and workshop personnel

• Demonstrated professional experience as a CNC Machinist
• Strong hands-on CNC setup, proving and operating capability
• Experience with CNC milling, turning or multi-axis machining
• Ability to independently take a machining job from setup through to completion
• Background in precision engineering or a comparable machining environment
• Experience with high-mix, low-volume, one-off or small-batch work
• Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
• Good understanding of machining tolerances, tooling and cutting parameters
• Practical knowledge of workholding and general machining techniques
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capability
• Excellent attention to dimensional accuracy and finished quality
• Experience handling complex or larger components is advantageous
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team
• Reliable, safety-conscious and quality-focused approach to work
• Relevant trade qualification or recognised CNC machining training is advantageous
