The Opportunity
A verified employment opportunity is available for an experienced Pastry Chef to join a growing bakery business in Otago, New Zealand.
This position is designed for a pastry professional who has proven commercial experience and wants to take their skills into an established New Zealand bakery environment. You’ll join a skilled production team where consistency, technical ability and pride in craftsmanship are highly valued.
The role offers the opportunity to work with traditional pastry methods while producing a broad range of European-style products in a high-volume commercial setting. From precision lamination and fermentation through to baking, finishing and presentation, your technical skills will play an important part in maintaining consistently high product standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce a consistent range of premium pastry products from scratch
- Prepare croissants, viennoiserie and Danish pastries using professional lamination techniques
- Prepare sweet tarts, pies, choux pastry and filled pastry products
- Mix, ferment, shape and bake dough according to production requirements
- Carry out accurate lamination, proofing and baking processes
- Prepare seasonal and speciality pastry products
- Maintain consistent standards for flavour, texture, size and presentation
- Inspect finished products and identify quality issues during production
- Monitor temperatures, equipment, allergens and production schedules
- Work efficiently to meet daily commercial production requirements
- Follow established food safety, hygiene and allergen-control procedures
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe pastry production area
- Work closely with other pastry and bakery team members
- Contribute to improvements in production methods, quality and efficiency
- Monitor ingredient requirements and assist with stock and supply ordering
- Support a positive and professional workplace culture
Requirements & Eligibility
- Minimum 3 years of professional Pastry Chef experience
- Recent experience within a commercial bakery, patisserie or professional kitchen
- Demonstrated expertise in viennoiserie and laminated dough production
- Strong practical experience producing croissants and other laminated pastries
- Sound knowledge of fermentation, lamination, proofing and baking techniques
- Proven ability to produce pastry products from scratch
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to consistent quality
- Ability to perform effectively within a high-volume production environment
- Good understanding of food safety, hygiene and allergen management
- Reliable, positive and professional approach to work
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Ability to follow production specifications while maintaining quality
- Formal pastry or baking qualifications are advantageous but not essential
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including early mornings, afternoons and weekends
- Availability for full-time employment
