Head Chef

The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and creative Head Chef to lead the kitchen team of a respected restaurant in South Australia.
This opportunity is ideal for a chef who is passionate about modern Australian cuisine, menu innovation and delivering exceptional dining experiences. You will take full responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the kitchen while also having the creative freedom to develop seasonal menus and introduce new dishes.
You will work closely with a supportive management team while leading, mentoring and developing a professional kitchen brigade.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all kitchen operations and food production activities
- Develop creative seasonal menus and new menu items
- Ensure menus align with customer expectations and restaurant standards
- Maintain exceptional food quality and consistency
- Monitor plating and presentation standards
- Develop recipes and standardise kitchen production methods
- Lead the kitchen team during lunch, dinner and special events
- Train and mentor chefs and kitchen employees
- Recruit and schedule kitchen team members
- Manage staff performance and professional development
- Monitor food costs and improve cost efficiency
- Manage labour costs and kitchen staffing levels
- Develop kitchen budgets and monitor financial performance
- Source high-quality ingredients from reliable suppliers
- Manage supplier relationships and purchasing arrangements
- Oversee ordering and inventory control
- Ensure correct stock rotation and food storage
- Reduce waste and improve kitchen efficiency
- Maintain food safety and HACCP compliance
- Ensure workplace health and safety requirements are followed
Requirements & Eligibility
- Proven experience as a Head Chef or Senior Sous Chef
- Experience in a high-volume restaurant or similar hospitality environment
- Strong understanding of modern Australian cuisine
- Demonstrated experience creating and developing menus
- Ability to develop seasonal and commercially successful menu offerings
- Strong leadership and staff development skills
- Experience managing kitchen costs and budgets
- Ability to manage food and labour costs effectively
- Strong knowledge of HACCP and food safety practices
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Creative approach to food and menu development
- Ability to lead effectively during busy service periods
