Head Chef

We are seeking an experienced Head Chef to lead a large-scale hospitality operation in the Manawatū-Whanganui region, New Zealand. This is a permanent full-time leadership opportunity within a fast-paced environment delivering high-quality food services, including daily meal production, corporate catering, and special events.

This role offers the opportunity to manage all aspects of kitchen operations while leading and developing a skilled culinary team. You will be responsible for maintaining exceptional food quality, safety, and operational standards while working with modern commercial kitchen equipment.

• Lead and manage all kitchen operations
• Plan, develop, cost, and deliver high-quality menus
• Maintain food safety, hygiene, and compliance standards
• Supervise, coach, and develop kitchen staff
• Manage kitchen rosters and daily operations
• Monitor productivity, food costs, and kitchen performance
• Prepare and oversee catering for functions and special events
• Ensure dietary, allergy, and cultural food requirements are met
• Maintain high presentation and quality standards
• Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering and inventory control
• Operate efficiently in a fast-paced commercial kitchen
• Drive continuous improvement and maintain industry best practices

• NZQA Level 4 Cookery qualification or equivalent
• Food Handling Certificate or equivalent food safety qualification
• Minimum 4 years of experience as a Head Chef, Sous Chef, or similar leadership role
• Strong leadership and people management skills
• Experience managing high-volume commercial kitchen operations
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure
• Excellent menu planning and food costing knowledge
• Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene regulations
• Excellent organisational and communication skills
• Reliable, professional, and quality-focused approach
• Ability to obtain satisfactory police and security clearances if required
