Intermediate Quantity Surveyor / Estimator

Join a leading employee-owned engineering and environmental consultancy delivering innovative infrastructure and civil engineering projects across Auckland Region, New Zealand. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Intermediate Quantity Surveyor / Estimator to work on diverse projects including civil infrastructure, earthworks, water, transport, environmental, and coastal developments.

You will be responsible for providing accurate cost estimates, commercial advice, contract support, and risk analysis throughout the project lifecycle while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil and infrastructure projects
• Develop quantity take-offs and pricing for tenders and project delivery
• Provide commercial, contractual and procurement advice throughout project delivery
• Monitor project costs and forecast final project expenditure
• Identify commercial risks and recommend mitigation strategies
• Review construction methodologies and assess project constructability
• Support tender preparation, contract administration and procurement activities
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers and technical specialists
• Assist with client meetings and maintain positive client relationships
• Prepare cost reports, project documentation and commercial assessments
• Ensure estimates are accurate, competitive and delivered within required deadlines
• Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes and cost management practices
• Support sustainability initiatives including embodied carbon assessments where applicable
• Maintain compliance with industry standards, contractual requirements and company procedures

• Relevant Degree or Diploma in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering or related discipline
• Approximately 5 years of quantity surveying or estimating experience within civil or multidisciplinary projects
• Previous construction industry experience is advantageous
• Strong knowledge of estimating, cost planning and commercial management
• Experience preparing accurate cost estimates and identifying commercial risks
• Good understanding of construction contracts and procurement processes
• Strong analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
• Experience working with clients and maintaining professional relationships is preferred
• Working towards professional industry membership is advantageous
• Experience with sustainability or embodied carbon assessments is beneficial
