Maintenance & Reliability Lead

An established manufacturing operation in Western Australia is looking for a technically capable Maintenance & Reliability Lead to take ownership of plant performance, equipment reliability and maintenance standards.

This role is ideal for a hands-on industrial tradesperson who wants to step beyond routine breakdown work and take responsibility for building a stronger, more proactive maintenance function.

You will combine practical fault-finding and repair skills with preventative maintenance, automation, reliability improvement and maintenance systems. You will spend time on the factory floor solving equipment problems, while also developing the processes, records and maintenance planning needed to reduce downtime and recurring failures.

The role provides the opportunity to work across mechanical, electrical and automated production systems while coordinating manufacturers, contractors and specialist technical providers when required.

• Take overall ownership of plant maintenance, equipment reliability and maintenance standards
• Lead daily maintenance priorities based on production requirements, equipment condition and safety
• Carry out hands-on fault diagnosis, repairs and maintenance within relevant qualifications and authorised scope
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, instrumentation and automation-related faults
• Diagnose PLC, HMI, VSD, sensor, motor and industrial control-system issues
• Maintain and improve equipment involved in processing, conveying, extrusion, drying, cooling, mixing, coating, packing and factory utilities
• Develop preventative and predictive maintenance programs to improve equipment reliability
• Identify recurring equipment failures and complete root-cause investigations
• Implement long-term corrective actions to minimise repeat breakdowns and production interruptions
• Develop and maintain asset registers, equipment histories, work orders and maintenance records
• Lead the implementation and ongoing improvement of CMMS and equipment maintenance systems
• Establish maintenance tasks, inspection routines, service frequencies and equipment criticality standards
• Coordinate specialist contractors, equipment manufacturers, suppliers and technical service providers
• Manage critical spare-parts requirements and improve spare-parts availability
• Support new equipment installation, commissioning, modification and operational handover
• Develop practical maintenance procedures, inspection checklists and equipment documentation
• Work with operators to improve basic equipment care and early fault identification
• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, uptime, reliability and maintenance efficiency
• Ensure maintenance activities comply with site safety, isolation, lockout/tagout and permit-to-work requirements
• Ensure specialist or licensed work is appropriately assigned to qualified personnel and contractors

• Recognised trade qualification in industrial electrical, mechanical fitting, fitting and turning, electromechanical engineering, mechatronics or a related discipline
• Strong hands-on maintenance experience in manufacturing, processing or another industrial environment
• Proven ability to diagnose and repair complex industrial equipment
• Practical industrial automation and controls experience
• Experience troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs, variable-speed drives, sensors, instrumentation and motors
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and repair skills
• Understanding of preventative maintenance, planned maintenance and breakdown response
• Experience with plant reliability, equipment improvement or maintenance optimisation
• Experience using or implementing a CMMS or computerised maintenance management system
• Experience with MEX, Buhler systems or similar maintenance platforms will be advantageous
• Ability to manage contractors, suppliers, manufacturers and specialist technical providers
• Strong root-cause analysis and problem-solving capability
• Ability to prioritise effectively in a production environment
• Strong communication, documentation and organisational skills
• Experience in food, FMCG, pet food, animal feed, grain, milling or similar processing environments will be highly regarded
• Experience with automated processing, conveying, extrusion, drying, cooling, coating, mixing or packing equipment will be advantageous
• Experience with commissioning, equipment installation, condition monitoring or reliability improvement will be highly regarded
• Knowledge of GMP, HACCP or other controlled manufacturing environments will be advantageous
• Ability to work safely within applicable licences, qualifications and authorised responsibilities
