The Opportunity
Ready to move beyond a standard Chef de Partie role and take greater ownership in the kitchen?
We are seeking a capable and motivated Sous Chef or experienced CDP to join a busy, creative food venue in South Australia. This is an opportunity for a chef who enjoys working with independence, wants to develop their leadership skills and is ready to work closely with a Head Chef in a hands-on kitchen environment.
The venue brings together deli, café and sandwich-style dining, creating a varied workplace where quality food, consistency and creativity are central to the operation.
The role is particularly suited to someone who values a strong work-life balance, with shifts focused mainly around mornings and lunch and the opportunity to finish by approximately 3:30pm.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Chef with the day-to-day running of the kitchen
- Take responsibility for kitchen operations when required
- Lead and manage your allocated section during service
- Prepare and cook food to established quality and presentation standards
- Follow recipes accurately and maintain consistency across every service
- Complete daily mise en place and preparation efficiently
- Maintain high standards of food quality, hygiene and presentation
- Contribute ideas to improve dishes, preparation and kitchen operations
- Monitor stock and minimise unnecessary food wastage
- Assist with stock control and kitchen organisation
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment
- Work efficiently and calmly during busy service periods
- Communicate effectively with the Head Chef and wider kitchen team
- Support junior kitchen staff and contribute to a positive team culture
- Take ownership of assigned responsibilities without requiring constant supervision
Requirements & Eligibility
- Previous experience as a Chef de Partie, Sous Chef or in a comparable commercial kitchen
- Experience in a café, bistro, restaurant, deli or fine-dining environment
- Strong practical cooking and food preparation skills
- Ability to work confidently without constant supervision
- Good understanding of recipes, portion control and consistency
- Ability to maintain quality standards during busy service
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Reliable, punctual and professional approach to work
- Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities
- Willingness to take ownership and demonstrate leadership potential
- Relevant culinary qualifications are advantageous
- Ability to commit to a full-time position
- Willingness to complete a 6-month trial period prior to sponsorship consideration
