We are seeking experienced Automotive Spray Painters and motivated Paintshop Prepper / Assistants to join an established automotive refinishing team in New Zealand. These are permanent, full-time opportunities for people who can demonstrate their skills, take responsibility for their workmanship and contribute positively to a professional workshop environment.
The Spray Painter position is suited to candidates with proven experience in vehicle refinishing, colour matching and achieving high-quality finishes. The Prepper / Assistant role provides an opportunity for a reliable candidate to gain practical industry experience and potentially progress towards an apprenticeship.
Key Responsibilities
- Automotive Spray Painter
- Carry out automotive spray painting and refinishing work
- Prepare vehicles and panels to achieve professional paint finishes
- Perform accurate colour matching and blending
- Complete surface preparation and refinishing processes
- Maintain consistent quality across completed jobs
- Work efficiently while meeting workshop production targets
- Identify and address finishing issues where required
- Maintain a clean, organised and productive paintshop
- Follow workplace safety and quality procedures
- Work independently while contributing effectively to the wider team
- Paintshop Prepper / Assistant
- Prepare vehicles and panels for refinishing
- Carry out sanding, masking and surface preparation
- Assist with priming and other preparation processes
- Support Spray Painters throughout the refinishing process
- Help maintain workflow and production efficiency
- Keep tools, equipment and work areas clean and organised
- Assist with general paintshop activities
- Develop practical automotive refinishing skills
- Work towards increased responsibility and potential apprenticeship progression
Requirements & Eligibility
- Demonstrated experience in automotive spray painting for Spray Painter applicants
- Strong colour-matching and refinishing capability
- Ability to consistently produce high-quality finishes
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to workmanship
- Ability to work efficiently under production deadlines
- Previous automotive paint preparation experience for Prepper / Assistant applicants is advantageous
- Knowledge of sanding, masking, priming and vehicle preparation is beneficial
- Reliable, punctual and self-motivated
- Strong work ethic and professional attitude
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to learn and develop technical skills
- Commitment to maintaining quality and workplace standards
