The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity is available for experienced Diesel Mechanics to join a large pastoral operation in Western Australia. This role is ideal for skilled tradespeople who enjoy working across a diverse fleet of heavy vehicles, machinery, motorcycles, and station equipment in a unique rural environment.
You will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of mechanical equipment to ensure daily station operations run efficiently. The role offers a supportive team environment, accommodation and meals, and visa sponsorship for eligible overseas applicants seeking a long-term career opportunity in Australia.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out scheduled servicing, maintenance, and repairs on diesel vehicles, trucks, motorcycles, and station machinery
- Diagnose mechanical faults and perform timely repairs to minimise equipment downtime
- Respond promptly to mechanical breakdowns and emergency call-outs
- Operate workshop equipment and tools safely and efficiently
- Maintain accurate service records and monitor parts inventory for timely reordering
- Ensure commonly used spare parts are kept in stock
- Provide guidance and basic training to station staff on routine equipment inspections and servicing
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures at all times
- Work independently and collaboratively in a remote working environment
- Assist in maintaining the reliability and performance of the company's fleet and equipment
Requirements & Eligibility
- Trade qualification in Diesel Mechanics, Heavy Vehicle Mechanics, or a related mechanical trade
- Minimum two years of relevant post-trade mechanical experience
- Experience maintaining heavy vehicles, agricultural, mining, or station equipment is highly regarded
- Strong mechanical diagnostic and fault-finding skills
- Ability to safely operate diagnostic and testing equipment
- Current driver's licence equivalent to an Australian C Class licence
- Motorcycle licence, HR licence, or MC licence will be advantageous
- Ability to work in remote locations and adapt to varying work conditions
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to maintenance
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team
- Physically fit and capable of working in hot and demanding environmental conditions
- Willingness to undergo workplace alcohol and drug testing in accordance with company policy
- Long-term commitment to the role
