Switchboard Electrician & HV/MV Electrical Engineer
Job Description
The Opportunity
An established Australian electrical engineering and manufacturing business is expanding its technical team in Queensland and is seeking skilled electrical professionals to join its growing operations.
Two opportunities are available for experienced candidates looking to work on LV, MV and HV electrical infrastructure projects across industrial, mining, utilities, renewable energy and infrastructure sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Test and inspect LV, MV and HV switchboards and transportable switchrooms
- Carry out electrical, mechanical and functional testing prior to delivery
- Perform insulation resistance, continuity, polarity, phase rotation and earth continuity testing
- Complete operational and control circuit testing
- Test and verify protection relays and associated systems
- Identify, diagnose and rectify electrical and wiring faults
- Assemble, modify and upgrade switchboards, MCCs and control panels
- Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, single line diagrams and technical drawings
- Complete Factory Acceptance Testing and support customer inspections
- Prepare testing, commissioning and quality documentation
- Ensure completed work meets Australian Standards and project specifications
- Assist with site installation, testing and commissioning when required
- Participate in shutdowns, project commissioning and occasional after-hours work
- Provide guidance and technical support to apprentices and junior electrical sta
Requirements & Eligibility
- Current Queensland Electrical Work Licence as an Electrical Mechanic or Electrical Fitter
- Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician or Electrical Fitting
- At least 3 years of experience in industrial switchboard manufacturing, testing or commissioning
- Demonstrated experience with LV switchboards, MCCs and industrial control systems
- Strong electrical testing and fault-finding capabilities
- Experience with MV/HV switchgear, substations or protection systems will be advantageous
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics and single line diagrams
- Knowledge of AS/NZS 61439, AS/NZS 3000 and applicable Australian Standards
- Current CPR/LVR certification
- Strong attention to quality, safety and technical accuracy
- Ability to work effectively in workshop and site environments
- Willingness to undertake occasional travel and commissioning work
- HV/MV Electrical Engineer
- Australian registration as an Electrical Engineer
- Minimum 2 years of relevant electrical engineering experience
- Practical experience with HV and/or MV electrical systems
- Experience with switchboards, switchgear, substations, protection and control or power distribution systems is highly regarded
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Understanding of applicable Australian electrical standards
- Ability to work effectively across engineering, manufacturing, testing and project teams
- Strong technical communication and teamwork skills
