Transport Manager
Job Description
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Transport Manager to oversee transport and distribution operations for a well-established business in Auckland. This role is responsible for ensuring efficient, safe, and cost-effective transport services while leading a team and maintaining high operational standards. The successful candidate will play a key role in fleet management, logistics planning, compliance, and continuous operational improvement. Sponsorship is available for suitable applicants.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organise, direct, and coordinate daily transport and distribution operations
- Develop transport strategies, delivery schedules, and route optimisation plans
- Oversee fleet utilisation, maintenance planning, and vehicle compliance
- Manage transport supervisors, drivers, dispatch, and administration staff
- Ensure compliance with transport legislation, health and safety requirements, and company policies
- Monitor operational KPIs including delivery performance, fuel efficiency, and cost control
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency
- Prepare transport budgets and monitor operating expenses
- Authorise operational expenditure within approved financial limits
- Negotiate and manage service agreements with logistics providers and suppliers
- Investigate operational incidents, delivery issues, and customer concerns
- Implement corrective and preventive actions to improve service delivery
- Coordinate with warehouse, sales, and procurement teams to support efficient distribution
- Analyse transport data and prepare operational and compliance reports
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, productivity, and service quality
Requirements & Eligibility
- Diploma Level 5 qualification or higher, or at least 2 years of relevant transport management experience
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Knowledge of transport operations, fleet management, and logistics planning
- Understanding of health and safety and transport compliance requirements
- Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to analyse operational performance and implement improvements
- Experience managing budgets and operational costs is preferred
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Commitment to delivering high standards of customer service and operational excellence
