Workshop Technician

This verified opportunity is designed for a skilled Fitter & CNC Machine Operator who offers more than machine operating experience.

Our client, an established engineering and metal fabrication business in Australia, is looking for a practical tradesperson who can understand a job from the initial drawing, plan the workshop requirements, operate the necessary machinery, complete fitting and assembly work and ensure everything is prepared for installation.

You will play an important role in keeping workshop jobs moving efficiently and maintaining high standards of accuracy, quality and readiness for site teams.

The successful candidate will have the confidence to work independently, solve practical fabrication issues and manage multiple stages of production.

• Interpret engineering and fabrication drawings independently
• Plan work requirements based on dimensions, tolerances, materials and assembly specifications
• Operate CNC machinery and general fabrication equipment
• Complete fitting, fabrication and assembly work to specification
• Perform MIG and TIG welding as required
• Check measurements, tolerances, fit-up and finished components
• Prepare completed materials and components for installation teams
• Coordinate workshop jobs and manage daily work priorities
• Ensure required materials, fasteners and fabricated items are available for installation
• Identify practical fabrication or drawing issues before work reaches site
• Maintain workshop machinery, tools and equipment
• Keep the workshop clean, organised and safe
• Work closely with fabricators, welders and installation personnel
• Assist with site fitting and installation when required

• Proven experience in engineering, metal fabrication or a similar workshop environment
• Experience as a Fitter, CNC Operator or multi-skilled engineering tradesperson
• Ability to confidently read and interpret engineering drawings
• Experience operating CNC machinery
• Strong fitting and assembly capabilities
• Good knowledge of metal fabrication processes
• Basic MIG and TIG welding skills
• High level of accuracy and measuring ability
• Experience using engineering and fabrication tools and machinery
• Ability to independently manage and progress workshop jobs
• Strong planning and organisational skills
• Good problem-solving ability
• Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards
• Experience with CNC laser cutting, tube laser cutting, CNC press brakes, drilling and grinding will be advantageous
• Immediate or short-notice availability preferred
